This week’s update breaks down three essential floor standards: securing perimeter gates and collection handovers, supporting emotional co-regulation during play, and following statutory EYFS safe sleep routines in baby rooms.
1. Safeguarding: Managing Safe Transitions & Collection Security

The Sector Focus: Ensuring strict handovers during peak transition windows (arrival drop-offs, garden free-flow, and end-of-day collections) to prevent unauthorized departures or children slipping through perimeter gates.

Why Temp Staff Need to Know This:

Never open the main nursery door: Unless specifically instructed by management, always let permanent staff answer external intercoms and verify parent/carer identities.

Check collection passwords: If a friend or family member arrives to collect a child, never hand the child over independently. Confirm with the room leader that the visitor is on the approved collection list and that the secure password matches.

Active gate vigilance: During free-flow transitions between indoors and outdoors, position yourself near internal barriers and gates to ensure they latch securely behind every group.

Never leave sleep rooms unmonitored: Do not rely solely on audio monitors. Physical checks must be carried out and logged (typically every 10 minutes) to check breathing, skin temperature, and position.
