The Update: The updated EYFS statutory framework clarifies that all children must have access to daily outdoor play (unless circumstances make it unsafe, such as extreme weather).

What this means on the floor: Outdoor play is not treated as an optional extra or just a "break." On your shifts, expect to support outdoor learning zones and garden transitions throughout the day. Always come prepared with weather-appropriate clothing so you can comfortably supervise, interact, and lead active learning outdoors.
2. Safeguarding Compliance: The 14-Day Mandatory Reporting Window

The Update: While settings know allegations must be reported, the updated guidance strictly reinforces the statutory 14-day deadline for providers to officially notify Ofsted of any reportable safeguarding incident or allegation of harm.

What this means on the floor: Because settings are on a strict legal clock, delays cannot happen. If an incident or concern happens during your cover shift, report it to the setting's Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) before you leave for the day so they have accurate, timestamped information immediately.
3. Learning & Development: Clarified English Level 2 Qualification Standards
