1. Policy Statement

Nexter Ltd is committed to supporting nurseries by supplying vetted, trained, and reliable temporary staff. While the primary health and safety responsibility lies with the nurseries employing our personnel, we recognise our duty to ensure our staff are fit, informed, and prepared to work safely within nursery environments. We aim to operate responsibly in compliance with relevant health and safety legislation and best practices.

2. Responsibilities

  • Nexter Ltd:

    • Conducts thorough vetting and pre-placement checks, including health declarations.

    • Informs nurseries promptly of any staff special circumstances (e.g. pregnancy, health issues) to assist in appropriate accommodations.

    • Provides staff with clear information about their role, the need to follow nursery procedures, and personal responsibilities for safety.

    • Maintains records of staff training, qualifications, and any disclosed health conditions.

  • Placements/Nurseries:

    • Retain day-to-day responsibility for health and safety of the workplace and activities of temporary staff while on site.

    • Ensure induction, supervision, site-specific training, and adequate risk assessments.

    • Are responsible for reasonable adjustments to accommodate individual staff needs.

  • Temporary Staff:

    • Follow nursery health and safety policies and guidance.

    • Report any hazards, risks, or health issues affecting their ability to work safely.

3. Identification and Control of Significant Health and Safety Risks

  • Our vetting process includes health questionnaires designed to identify any relevant personal health risks.

  • We advise nurseries in advance of any staff limitations or needs to support appropriate accommodations.

  • Nurseries provide site-specific inductions and risk assessments for all staff, including temporary workers.

  • Staff are encouraged to communicate openly about any health or safety concerns.

  • We maintain open channels with clients to receive and convey feedback on health and safety incidents or concerns involving our staff.

4. Risk Assessments and Method Statements

  • As an agency, we do not carry out direct operational activities on nursery sites, so the responsibility for risk assessments and method statements lies with the nursery.

  • Upon request, we will provide the nurseries with our internal procedures for vetting, staff health declarations, and any documentation confirming staff training or qualifications relevant to safe working.

  • We cooperate with nurseries to support investigations and resolutions of any incidents involving our staff.

5. Training and Competence

  • We ensure all temporary staff hold the necessary qualifications and training required for their assigned roles.

  • Staff receive briefing on the importance of adherence to nursery health and safety policies before placement.

  • We support our staff to understand their responsibilities and the importance of personal safety.

6. Incident Reporting and Monitoring

  • We require that our staff report any incidents or near-misses immediately to the nursery management.

  • Nurseries are expected to notify us of any health and safety incidents involving our temporary workers.

  • We review and monitor incident reports to identify any patterns and contribute to continuous improvement.

7. Confidentiality and Data Protection

  • Staff health information and risk-related data are handled in accordance with data protection regulations and only shared as necessary to protect health and safety.

8. Policy Review

This policy is reviewed annually and updated as necessary to reflect changes in legislation, best practice, or operational requirements.
